Ebonyi Canadians Christmas

Christmas is the time when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who according to the Christian faith is the Lord and Saviour of the world.  The birth of a child always brings great joy in the Igboculture and signifies a new beginning, a new hope, a continuity.  Families gather together during such occasions and share each other’s company.  My hope is that this tradition of sharing of affection, good company, gifts and general goodwill remains strong in our families and in our community in general.

As we celebrate this Christmas season, may we also take time to remember those who are separated from us by distance and to remember the less fortunate in our community and the world at large and some who may be recovering from a misfortune.  May we keep such people especially in our prayers and share with them as the spirit moves us.
Even as we share our love for one another on Christmas day and beyond may this love also transcend our immediate family, into the greater Igbo family so that we can once again enjoy a spirit of oneness for our collective progress.  And may the new year bring us good tidings.
On behalf of the executive of the Ebonyi Association of Canada, I wish you all merry Christmas and a happy new year.
